Weary Dunlop Retirement Village - Aged Care - Ryman Healthcare

Overview

Care is at the heart of everything we do

Our goal is the same, no matter which village you live in.

Since Ryman Healthcare began 35 years ago, our standard has been:

"It’s got to be good enough for Mum or Dad."

Weary Dunlop Retirement Village is located in the leafy and peaceful suburb of Wheelers Hill. Conveniently positioned on Jells Road, next to Wheelers Hill shopping centre, and in close proximity to the lush Jells Park, Monash, Eastlink and Peninsula Link freeways, perfectly accessible for getaways from the city to coast. The village is also close to fantastic shopping and dining destinations like Wheelers Hill, Brandon Park and The Glen shopping centres making it a great central location for day trips with the family.

The village offers a full continuum of care which includes independent living, assisted living in serviced apartments, residential aged care, and specialist dementia care. Having all the care options at the same location provides residents with real peace of mind knowing that if their needs change we can continue to look after them all within the same village community.

To make sure residents receive the level of care that’s right for them, their needs will be assessed before they move in. Each resident is unique and by talking to them and their family, we can customise a care plan suitable for the individual.

Our aged-care centres are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A clinical manager and unit coordinators oversee our trained carers and registered nurses in the delivery of residents daily care. Our staffing levels are among the highest in the sector, and our people are highly trained to handle all safety and emergency situations.

All rooms in our care centre are private and spacious so there's plenty of room for friends and family to visit. The rooms also have temperature control for all year-round comfort. The rooms and ensuites have monitored call bells for residents security. All staff in our nursing and care team carries a pager that immediately alerts them if a resident rings a call bell. The rooms are residents personal space, and they can furnish it with their favourite pieces making it feel homely. Care rooms overlook beautifully landscaped gardens or courtyards and all have a television.

At Ryman, our care plans come to life through our own custom-made and award-winning electronic care app, myRyman. A device, located in every care room, enables nurses and carers to record daily care tasks for each resident.

We understand how important it is for food to be enjoyed and to be nutritional, so we ensure our seasonal menu is constantly evolving as residents tell us what works, and what could be better.  To give variety and a well-balanced diet we serve up to 120 different meals each month.

Ryman Engage – our complimentary activities program – is about embracing opportunities and activities that are thoughtfully planned, age and ability appropriate, and make the most of our beautiful facilities. Residents can join in the many activities on offer. It may be going on a group bus trip, heading off to visit an exhibition, joining one of the many interest groups, or simply sharing some baking at morning tea.

The Ryman Triple A (Ageless, Active, Aware) complimentary exercise program encourages residents to keep moving. Catering for all ability levels, many residents are surprised to find that they are more active since they moved into the village. Residents tell us that taking part in the program improves their strength, balance and mobility. This also helps to prevent falls and to maintain independence.

Pioneering is part of who we are. That’s why each Ryman village is named after an Aussie or a Kiwi trailblazer, Sir Edward “Weary” Dunlop, Dame Nellie Melba, Sir Edmund Hillary. They lived with passion and purpose, they pushed further, they went beyond the ordinary. That’s exactly what we strive to do, every day, at Ryman. To pioneer a new way of living, for a new retirement generation.

Sir Edward “Weary” Dunlop was an Australian surgeon who is renowned for his leadership and courage while being held prisoner by the Japanese during World War II.
