About Blackwood Cottage Blackwood Cottage is a 15 bed Older Person's Mental Health Residential Service for people over 65 years of age who experience challenging behaviours due to an enduring mental health condition or marked cognitive impairment. Blackwood Cottage is staffed by  experienced mental health nurses. The unit has 2 activities officers and receives Allied Health support from the Beechworth Health Service. Nursing Staff are rostered 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.A Consultant Psychiatrist visits fortnightly and there are weekly medical reviews from a General Practitioner with a Post Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Medicine.

There is a strong sense of community, respect and dignity for our residents. We offer new residents choice and versatility with four styles of room available at Violet Town including: Large single room Regular single rooms Partner rooms with capacity for two residents Special care room (dementia specific). With multiple large and intimate living spaces across each area of our 66-bed facility, the site is designed to provide the required degree of safety and care to the individual, while at the same time protecting privacy. A nurse call system is located in each room beside the bed and in the ensuite, enabling 24-hour support if required. The rooms are modern, comfortable and provide a very pleasant living environment, each having its own entrance, lounge, dining room and kitchenette for residents. The Activities and Lifestyle Program is an important feature of the facility. This program ensures residents personalised are coordinated for residents to assist in the transition into the facility. Darlingford Upper Goulburn Nursing Home is a 51 bed facility that accommodates residents with a variety of care needs from respite to low and high level care. Located in the heart of picturesque Eildon in North East Victoria, Darlingford is surrounded by more than three acres of gardens and land (home to our resident miniature ponies) and overlooks the Eildon Pondage. The facility caters for the needs of couples as well as single private rooms with ensuite bathrooms and individual heating & cooling systems. Common dining rooms and indoor and outdoor sitting areas encourage social interaction and are often used to run structured activities. Residents enjoy a varied menu of home-cooked meals and snacks that are prepared on site and served fresh. Personal clothing is also laundered on site. In an effort to keep our residents connected with relatives and friends who cannot visit regularly, we have a large touch screen computer so that we can simplify "virtual visits" via Skype.  Residents are now able to see and hear their friends and relatives no matter how far away they may live. Activities Our Activites & Lifestyle Team at Darlingford provide activities and entertainment from Monday to Saturday each week for our residents. These activities focus on individual needs & interests, as well as providing a social outlet for all. A monthly calendar is created and activities include: Restaurant dining Craft sessions Karaoke Outings Takeaway lunch days Music and sing-a-long’s Games such as Scrabble/Bingo, celebration days e.g. Anzac Day, Christmas Visits from various community groups e.g. school and kindergarten children Church services. Hobby Farm Darlingford Nursing Home established a fenced area in 2008 at the back of the nursing home to accommodate four miniature ponies. The residents assist in caring for the ponies under supervision. Our beautiful country location also means that we enjoy regular visits from a range of wildlife including wombats, wallabies and birds including the spectacular and friendly King Parrots. Having contact with animals and being involved in their care can have a tremendous positive impact on a person’s wellbeing, so this interaction is encouraged at Darlingford. Specialist Care The staff at Darlingford have extensive knowledge and skill in providing specialist care for those no longer able to be cared for at home. With oversight from the Director of Nursing and Nurse Unit Manager, Darlingford is staffed by Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and qualified Personal Care Attendants. We also provide Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietitian and Speech Therapy services.
