Check your eligibility

To be eligible for aged care support, you must be aged 65 and over, or 50 years and over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.

The next important component of whether you are eligible for an assessment is based on how independent you are at home or how much assistance you require to undertake necessary daily activities.

These daily activities can include showering yourself, going for walks, using the toilet, eating or preparing meals, housework, getting to the shops, paying your bills, and so much more.

If you are struggling to undertake some of these areas, then you are more likely eligible to receive assistance from Government funded supports.

Other areas that can signify you may need extra help include:

  • small changes in any abilities you previously had

  • development of a health condition

  • issues with mobility

  • changes to care arrangements

  • a recent fall

  • admission to the hospital
