Providing architectural solutions for aged care
Edge Architects have over 20 years experience specialising in education, commercial, aged care and master planning, with particular importance placed on producing highly functional and cost effective results.
The recently completed House of St Hilarion showcases the skills Edge Architects have to offer. The 140-bed facility forms stages one and two of an extensive cultural specific master planned facility to create an environment to house the residents and communities current needs and allow expansion to cater for future requirements.
Designed with both high and low level care facilities on the one site, throughout the facility allied health areas are located to enable Dentists, Physiotherapists & Podiatrists to offer a comprehensive range of services.
The new facility is different to older institutionalised age care service models and creates an interactive and open environment which encourages greater interaction with the wider community, increases ties to local community heritage and forms a comfortable and familiar home environment for residents and their families.
Every minor detail, from underfloor heating to the internal streetscape, not to mention the best in care, has been incorporated into the new House of Saint Hilarion in Adelaide.
The facility was designed by Edge Architects to the vision of chief executive officer, Peter Hill and his very able team. It is state of the art in every sense and no expense has been spared in developing this green fields site.
The five star luxury facility is designed to engender a feeling of community, while at the same time creating a home for the residents.
The building is 9c in category and therefore offers a high and low care accommodation mix in its large rooms, each with private ensuite. There are a number of interconnecting rooms for couples, and 35 of the rooms are part of a secure dementia unit which includes a spacious courtyard and raised garden areas.
The decor is modern and neutral with spectacular large pictures adorning the walls. Plenty of light fills the rooms through large windows fitted with sheer curtains and drapes. Each room is equipped with an LCD TV which enables residents to watch their favourite programs or keep up to date with the activities agenda in the facility. Residents are also able to watch the church services on screen should they not be able to attend the magnificent chapel in person.
A delectable range of fresh home cooked meals are prepared in the huge onsite commercial kitchen which can cater for 300 people per sitting. There are also a number of small dining areas for more personal dinner occasions. On the activity front there’s an in-house cinema, library and multiple communal areas which all include LCD TVs.
The Piazza is a communal focal point for residents, families and visitors and comes complete with barbecues, al fresco dining, a private dining area, bocce games area & children’s playground.
A popular and specially designed meeting area used regularly by residents and visitors alike is the streetscape, an undercover and enclosed internal street complete with onsite cafe, hairdressing salon and ATM machine. This also provides an ideal location for
holding social events. One of these events was Old MacDonald’s farm, where farm animals were brought in for the enjoyment of residents.
All laundry services are provided onsite with the facility’s laundry equipped with the latest in washing and drying technology. It is located in the 63 vehicle underground car park.
There is an overwhelmingly friendly and caring atmosphere among the staff at St Hilarion which is communicated on every level to residents and visitors.
